Unbiased political information to help you stay informed
Democracy Needs Action is a small, nonpartisan project. It gathers the practical tools for taking part in a democracy — and nothing else. No infinite scroll, no engagement bait, no take on who you should vote for.
What's here
- Voter tools — register, check your status, request a mail ballot, see what's on your ballot, get election reminders, and pledge to register if you're not eligible yet. These are Vote.org's free, nonpartisan tools, embedded here so you never have to leave to use them.
- Resources — a short, hand-kept index of places worth your morning: read the news honestly, watch the balance of power, organize, and get to the polls.
- Live reads on Congress — the seat composition of the House and Senate, tallied from the official chamber directories, and a countdown to the next federal elections.
- The Daily Mini — a small political crossword for every day of the week: voting, amendments, protest, democracy, elections, and the free press.
- Hot Topics — plainly explained, sourced pages on things actively in the news, grouped under Money, Healthcare, AI, Data Centers, Climate, Elections, Foreign Policy, Immigration, Epstein Files, Education. See all of them from the home page, or start with the national debt — what the government owes, who holds it, and how big that really is, sourced from the U.S. Treasury.
Nonpartisan, plainly
Democracy Needs Action does not endorse candidates or parties and does not try to change your mind. It is biased in a few ways: that elected officials should serve the people who voted for them, that more people should vote, and that voting should be easy. The Congress figures show whatever the official records show; the resource list points at outlets and organizations across the spectrum that do their work honestly.
